Even with the best treatment and injury management, not all workers are able to return to the same job or workplace following a workplace injury. CHG’s team of qualified psychologists have extensive experience in conducting vocational assessments to identify potential job options for such employees. The psychologist will complete a clinical interview and utilise a range of assessment tools to identify potential vocational options. Assessments vary for each person but generally include:
- clinical evaluation and review of the worker’s personal and vocational history
- physical functional and work capacity (through self-report and supplied medical documentation where available)
- psychological function and work capacity where mental illness is present
- educational background and work experience
- cognitive ability / intelligence
- aptitude – including reasoning skills and ability to process auditory and visual material
- job interests or preferences
- personal attributes or clinical findings that may impact on the employment process
- work values and motivation
- training or re-training options
- labour market conditions
The vocational assessment report outlines the vocational options most suited to the individual based on the information gathered, while also taking into consideration availability of recommended positions and retraining needs. The goal of the vocational assessment is to assist in identifying suitable employment and setting realistic vocational goals to help people return to meaningful employment.
