As little as 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a day can have a positive impact on a person’s health, yet almost 9 million Australian adults do not reach this level of daily activity. Physical inactivity doubles the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and many types of cancer. These risks are avoidable.
If physical inactivity is a problem in your workplace, CHG can work with you to get your people moving through our StepUP Program. Designed by CHG’s exercise physiologists and doctors, the program uses a pedometer to record how many steps a person takes every day.
10,000 steps is the recommended daily step goal for a healthy adult, and we can work with you and your staff to achieve, and exceed, that goal.
To reach the desired levels of activity, people need to make the right choices – do I walk or take the car, take the lift or the stairs, take the dog for a walk or watch television? The use of a motivational tool such as a pedometer recording how many, or how few, steps you have done that day can make it easier to make healthy, active choices.
The program commences with a workshop to motivate staff to work together to increase levels of general activity. The program runs over a number of weeks or months and focuses on increasing the daily step count for those participating in the program. The program includes regular contact with an experienced health coach and has proven highly successful in increasing the general activity of staff with little interest in ‘exercise’.
“I would like to see the program continue as it enhances workers health and happiness and well being, its ideal for employees. Well done and thank you Corporate Health Group.” Quarry worker, August 2009.
